Please follow these pre-operative instructions carefully if your procedure involves IV sedation or general anesthesia.

Preparing for Your Procedure

To ensure your safety and the effectiveness of your anesthesia, it’s important to carefully follow all pre-operative guidelines. Failure to do so may result in your procedure being delayed or rescheduled.

Pre-Operative Instructions for IV Sedation & General Anesthesia

1. No Food or Drink 8 Hours Before Surgery

  • Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for at least 8 hours before your scheduled procedure.
  • This includes gum, mints, coffee, or even a small sip of water.
  • For afternoon appointments, a light meal may be permitted more than 8 hours before surgery — please confirm with our office.

2. Medications

  • Take your regular medications only if approved by our team, with a small sip of water if necessary.
  • If you take blood pressure medications, insulin, blood thinners, or other prescription drugs, inform us at your consultation.
  • Do not stop or modify any medications without our direction.

3. An Escort Is Required

  • You must have a responsible adult accompany you to the office and remain with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
  • You will not be allowed to leave alone or take a taxi or rideshare home.

4. Clothing & Personal Items

  • Wear loose-fitting clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up above the elbow.
  • Avoid nail polish, contact lenses, makeup, jewelry, or facial piercings on the day of surgery.
  • Bring your driver’s license, insurance card, and any paperwork not previously submitted.

5. Medical History

Please notify us in advance if you have any of the following:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart conditions (including stents or valve replacements)
  • Joint replacements
  • Breathing disorders (e.g., asthma, sleep apnea)
  • Bleeding disorders or use of anticoagulants
  • History of adverse reactions to anesthesia

Also, bring a complete list of your current medications and supplements to your appointment.

6. Illness or Changes in Health

Contact us immediately if you develop a fever, cold, sore throat, or respiratory illness prior to surgery. These conditions may increase your risk during anesthesia and could require rescheduling.
